Hourfly is a Solana launchpad where a fruit fly picks the winning coin. Every hour, twelve coins get a well of the same vinegar. Volume makes a coin’s scent stronger, up to 3×. At :00 a simulated fly is let go in the middle, and the scent it spends the most seconds near takes the pot.
See how the fly treats you. Practice releases don’t count.

c, What the fly smelled and did, second by second. Left and right antenna, and the state it was in. When a filament reaches one antenna first it turns that way, and it runs upwind while the scent keeps coming.
The wind is drawn fresh every hour, and the coins are reshuffled into wells. No seat is better in the long run. Volume helps, up to a point: the strongest scent wins more often, not always.
d, Every release today. Paths overlaid in the middle, each hour’s winner at its hour. Demonstration history.
e, The proof. The landing, recorded through a slit in the floor, and everything you need to rerun the hour.
Arena. A walking arena 127 mm across, the size of the FlyBowl, a classic dish for filming flies (Simon and Dickinson, 2010). Twelve wells sit on one ring, 44 mm from the middle. Air crosses the floor at 40 mm/s from a new direction every hour.
Scent. Every well holds the same apple cider vinegar, so no coin smells better than another; the dye only shows where its scent goes. Strength is 1 + log10(1 + volume ÷ 5 SOL), capped at 3×. Flies are drawn to weak vinegar and pulled less by strong vinegar (Semmelhack and Wang, 2009), so more is not always better. Last hour’s winner runs at half strength.
Field. The ten coins with the most volume between :00 and :55 get a well. Two more are drawn from every other coin that traded at least 0.5 SOL. Volume is counted from the fees each trade paid, so wash trading only grows the pot.
Draw. At :55 the field is frozen, hashed and posted on Solana. The seed is the SHA-256 of that hash and the first Solana block after :00. It shuffles the coins into wells and draws the wind, the fly’s first heading and every random step it takes.
Fly. The fly walks, stops, grooms and follows odour filaments upwind. When it loses them it casts crosswind, then searches where it last smelled them. Its timings follow measured flies (Álvarez-Salvado et al., 2018; van Breugel and Dickinson, 2014). In the 3D dish it is drawn 5 times life size. On this page it is a demonstration model. The live decision layer is built on the smell circuit of MaleCNS v1.0: about 1,200 receptor neurons per antenna, about 50 glomeruli, the lateral horn.
Hops. Hops are drawn, not simulated. Time in the air doesn’t count.
Winner. Seconds with the fly’s head within 6 mm of a well count. Seconds feeding count double. Most seconds wins; ties go to the first arrival.
Pot. 30% of the hour’s Hourfly fees. 70% of it buys back the winner. The rest is split by seconds among the other coins the fly visited.
Proof. After the release, the replay, its hash and the result go on Solana, and the pot pays out after a ten-minute check. Anyone can rerun an hour on this page and compare the hash.
